Frequently asked questions
Everything you might need to ask, answered.
Ordering, pricing, stock, delivery, export, grades, certification, cutting and machining. If something is still unclear, the sales desk will answer it directly.
Ordering & enquiries
06- How do I get a quote or place an order?
- Use the Request a Quote builder to specify material, form, grade, dimensions and quantity, or contact the sales desk directly by phone, email or WhatsApp. Quotes are typically returned the same working day.
- What information should I include in an enquiry?
- The grade, the product form (pipe, tube, bar, sheet, fitting and so on), the dimensions or size range, the quantity, any standard or certification you need, and where the material is going. The more of this you provide, the faster and more precise the quotation.
- Is there a minimum order quantity?
- No. We supply single lengths and small quantities from stock as readily as full project tonnages. Tell us what you need and we will quote it.
- Can I order just one length or a small piece?
- Yes. Because we hold stock, we can cut and supply single lengths and small quantities without waiting for a mill run.
- Do you supply to individuals, or only to businesses?
- We primarily supply businesses, fabricators, OEMs and traders, but we quote any genuine requirement. For a one-off small quantity, the sales desk will advise the simplest way to buy.
- Can I get a sample before ordering?
- For most standard grades a sample or offcut can be arranged. Ask the sales desk when you enquire.
Pricing & payment
06- How is the price worked out?
- Price depends on the grade, the size, the quantity, the condition or finish, and the prevailing raw-material cost. Because those vary, price is quoted per enquiry rather than fixed on the website.
- Do you publish a price list?
- Stainless steel and nickel alloy prices move with the nickel and alloy surcharge and the metal market, so a fixed published list would be out of date quickly. We give a firm quotation on enquiry, usually the same working day.
- Why do stainless steel prices change?
- Stainless is priced as a base cost plus an alloy surcharge that tracks the market price of nickel, chromium and molybdenum. When those move, the surcharge moves, which is why a quote is dated and held for a stated period.
- What payment methods and terms do you accept?
- Payment terms are confirmed on the quotation and depend on the order and whether it is domestic or export. The sales desk will set out the accepted methods and any terms before you commit.
- Do you offer credit terms?
- Credit is considered case by case for established accounts. Discuss it with the sales desk at the time of quotation.
- Are prices inclusive of GST?
- For domestic supply, GST is applied as required under Indian law and shown separately on the invoice. Export pricing follows the agreed Incoterm and is handled differently — the quotation makes this clear.
Stock & availability
05- Do you keep material in stock?
- Yes. Rajgranth is a super stockholder — one of the larger held inventories of stainless steel in India — covering pipe, tube, bar, sheet, plate, coil, fitting and fastener forms across the common grades and sizes.
- How quickly can you despatch?
- Most orders are completed from held stock and despatched within two working days. Made-to-order items carry a lead time confirmed at quotation.
- What if the size or grade I need isn't in stock?
- We manufacture and source to order. If an item is not on the shelf, the quotation states the lead time. For high-alloy and specialty material, the import division can often locate it faster than a fresh mill run.
- Which grades and sizes do you hold?
- The common austenitic grades (304, 304L, 316, 316L, 321, 347), plus 310, 904L, duplex and super duplex, 254 SMO, 17-4 PH, Alloy 20, and nickel alloys including Inconel 600, Hastelloy C22 and Nickel 200. Sizes and forms are set out on each product page; anything not listed is supplied to order.
- Can you source grades you don't normally stock?
- Yes. Between held stock, our mills and the import division, the practical range is considerably wider than what is published. Send the specification and we will confirm.
Delivery & logistics
04- Do you deliver across India?
- Yes, we despatch domestically across India by road and rail. Delivery time depends on destination and is confirmed at order.
- How is the material packed?
- Bundled and strapped with edge protection, plastic end caps on pipe and tube, and seaworthy wooden cases or pallets for export. Special marking, VCI or moisture-barrier wrapping is provided where specified.
- Can I collect from your stockyard?
- Yes. Material can be collected from the stockyard at Lokhand Bazar, Kumbharwada, Mumbai. Arrange the collection slot with the sales desk.
- Do you arrange transport and freight?
- Yes, we can arrange domestic transport and export freight, or work with your nominated forwarder. Tell us your preference at order.
Export & international supply
06- Do you export, and to which countries?
- Yes. Rajgranth exports to markets across the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Asia, North America and South America — around 79 markets in total. International enquiries are handled by a dedicated export desk.
- What export documentation do you provide?
- Mill test certificate to EN 10204 3.1 as standard (3.2 with third-party inspection on request), certificate of origin, commercial invoice, packing list, and bill of lading or airway bill. Insurance and other documents are prepared where required.
- Which Incoterms do you work on?
- FOB, CFR, CIF, EXW and DAP. The quotation states the terms and the named port or place.
- Which ports do you ship from?
- Principally Nhava Sheva (JNPT) and Mumbai, with Mundra and Kandla also used depending on the shipment.
- Can you supply to my country's standard?
- Yes. Material is certified and marked to the destination standard — ASTM/ASME (United States), EN/DIN (Europe), or JIS (Japan) — rather than converted after the fact. Name the standard in your enquiry.
- How do I reach the export desk?
- Export enquiries are handled by Kunj Bhansali (phone or WhatsApp on +91 79779 45282) and Dhruv Bhansali (+91 93215 79932), or by email to sales@rgmalloys.com.
Grades & specification
08- Which grade should I choose?
- It depends on the medium, temperature and pressure the material will see. Our grade pages and the grade comparator set out composition, corrosion behaviour and limitations side by side; if you tell us the service conditions, we will tell you what we would specify.
- What is the difference between 304 and 316?
- 316 contains 2 to 3 percent molybdenum, which 304 does not. That improves resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride environments, which is why 316 suits marine, chemical and coastal service. For dry indoor, food and general water use, 304 performs well at lower cost.
- What is duplex and super duplex stainless steel?
- A duplex microstructure is roughly half austenite and half ferrite, giving about double the yield strength of 316L together with much better resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking. Super duplex (for example 2507) pushes corrosion resistance further for seawater and sour service. The main limit is a maximum service temperature near 300 degrees Celsius.
- What does PREN mean?
- PREN is the Pitting Resistance Equivalent Number: percent chromium plus 3.3 times percent molybdenum plus 16 times percent nitrogen. Higher means better resistance to pitting in chlorides. It is a ranking figure, not a substitute for assessing a specific service condition.
- Do you supply nickel alloys?
- Yes — Inconel 600, Hastelloy C22 and Nickel 200 from ready stock, with a wider range of nickel, cobalt, titanium and high-temperature alloys available through the import division.
- Seamless or welded — which do I need?
- Seamless has no weld seam and is specified for high or cyclic pressure and elevated-temperature service. Welded is more economical and available in larger diameters, and is well suited to lower-pressure, structural and general service. Both are supplied in the same grades.
- What is the difference between nominal bore and outside diameter?
- Nominal bore (NB) is a size label, not a measurement — a 2-inch NB pipe has an outside diameter of 60.3 mm, not 2 inches. Outside diameter is fixed for a given NB regardless of schedule, so fittings and flanges interchange. Giving OD and wall thickness in millimetres alongside the NB removes all ambiguity when ordering.
- What does the pipe schedule mean?
- Schedule is a wall-thickness series. Since outside diameter is fixed for a given nominal bore, a higher schedule means a thicker wall, a higher pressure rating and a smaller bore. Stainless is often supplied to the S series (5S, 10S, 40S) defined in ASME B36.19.
Certification & quality
07- Are you ISO certified?
- Yes. Rajgranth operates an ISO 9001:2015 certified quality management system covering manufacturing, stockholding and despatch. The certificate is available on request.
- What certification comes with the material?
- A mill test certificate to EN 10204 3.1 as standard, heat-traceable, showing chemical composition and mechanical properties. EN 10204 3.2 with independent third-party inspection is available on request.
- What is an MTC?
- A mill test certificate links the physical material to a tested heat of steel. A 3.1 certificate reports the composition and mechanical properties of your batch, signed by the manufacturer's inspection representative. A 3.2 certificate adds independent witnessing. Decide which you need before you order — a 3.2 cannot be issued after the fact.
- Do you provide third-party inspection?
- Yes, where the specification or client requires it. Name the inspection agency in your enquiry and we will arrange witnessed testing to EN 10204 3.2.
- What testing do you perform?
- In-house testing covers chemistry (spectrometer, PMI, laboratory analysis), mechanical properties (tensile, hardness), and integrity (hydrostatic, eddy current, ultrasonic, flattening and reverse-bend) — eighteen facilities in all. The quality page lists them in full.
- Is the material traceable to heat?
- Yes. Material is marked with size, grade, specification and heat number, and the heat number ties back to the mill test certificate.
- Can you supply material for pressure, PED or NACE service?
- Yes, subject to the specification. Tell us the code — ASME, PED 2014/68/EU, or NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 for sour service — and we will confirm what we can supply and certify.
Cutting, custom sizes & machining
05- Can you cut to length?
- Yes. Standard lengths are 5 to 6.5 metres, and material is cut to your required length on request.
- Do you supply custom or non-standard sizes?
- Yes, to order. Send the dimensions and we will confirm feasibility and lead time.
- Do you machine finished components to a drawing?
- Yes. Rajgranth machines precision components in house on CNC, VMC and Swiss-type equipment — turned, milled, honed, ground, plated and heat treated, then verified on co-ordinate measuring equipment. Send the drawing with material, tolerance and quantity.
- What surface finishes do you offer?
- For bar: bright, peeled/turned, cold drawn, centreless ground and polished, black and forged. For pipe and tube: bright annealed, solution annealed, electropolished, pickled, mirror and matt. For sheet: 2B, BA, No. 4, hairline and mirror. Each product page lists the finishes available for that form.
- Can you supply specific tolerances or conditions?
- Yes — bar is supplied to h7 through h10 tolerance classes, and delivery condition (annealed, cold drawn, ground) is specified with the order. Tell us the class and condition you need.
Import division (buying & selling surplus alloy)
03- Do you buy surplus or excess alloy stock?
- Yes. The import division buys and sells high-temperature, nickel, cobalt, titanium and stainless material — including surplus lots, mill excess, obsolete stock and project disposals.
- What materials does the import division handle?
- Nickel, Monel, Inconel, Incoloy, Hastelloy, Alloy 20, titanium, Nimonic, SMO, duplex and super duplex, plus controlled-expansion alloys such as Kovar and Invar, in scrap, pipe, tube, sheet, coil, bar and wire form.
- How do I offer material to sell?
- Send the alloy family and grade or UNS designation, the form, the approximate quantity and size range, the origin and any certification, its location, and photographs where the condition is relevant. Email it to sales@rgmalloys.com and the import desk will price it.

SS 202 & export
07- What is SS 202 stainless steel?
- SS 202 (UNS S20200, EN 1.4373, JIS SUS 202) is a chromium-manganese-nickel austenitic stainless steel. Manganese and nitrogen replace part of the nickel used in 304, which makes it cheaper and gives it a higher annealed yield strength, at the cost of lower corrosion resistance.
- What is the difference between SS 202 and SS 304?
- 202 has about 4–6% nickel and 7.5–10% manganese; 304 has about 8–10.5% nickel and 2% manganese at most. 202 costs less and is stronger when annealed, but 304 resists corrosion better and forms better. Use 202 for dry, indoor, decorative and general fabrication, and 304 or 316 for food, chemical, outdoor and coastal service.
- Where is SS 202 used?
- Kitchenware and cookware, decorative and architectural tube and trim indoors, furniture frames, elevator and interior panels, appliances, and general dry fabrication. It is not recommended for coastal, chloride or chemical-process service.
- Is SS 202 magnetic?
- In the annealed condition it is non-magnetic. Cold working can make it slightly magnetic, as with other austenitic grades.
- Which forms of SS 202 do you supply?
- Welded and seamless pipes and tubes, round bars, sheets and plates, coils, strips and foils, flat bars and circles, in the finishes and sizes we hold. Send the size, quantity and standard and we will confirm availability.
- Do you supply a mill test certificate for SS 202?
- Yes. Material is supplied with a mill test certificate to EN 10204 3.1 as standard, heat-traceable, showing chemical composition and mechanical properties. 3.2 with third-party inspection is available on request. Always confirm the composition on the certificate, because 200-series chemistry varies between mills.
- Do you export SS 202 to Vietnam, the Middle East and other countries?
- Yes. We export stainless steel from Mumbai to markets across Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe and the Americas, including Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Bangladesh. Quotations state the Incoterm and the named port.
