Power and Energy
The hot end demands creep strength and steam-side oxidation resistance, which points to stabilised and high-chromium austenitics. The cold end is a completely different problem: flue gas desulphurisation produces acidic chloride condensate that destroys conventional stainless, and scrubber internals routinely require 904L, 6-Moly or C-family nickel alloys.
What gets specified in power & energy
Ordered by how commonly they are called for in this sector.
- UNS S34700 / S34709347 / 347HPREN 19
Stabilised with niobium rather than titanium. Preferred where weld filler purity matters.
- UNS S32100 / S32109321 / 321HPREN 19
304 stabilised with titanium. Resists sensitisation in the 425–815 degrees C range.
- UNS S31000 / S31008310 / 310SPREN 25
25% chromium, 20% nickel. A heat-resisting grade, not a corrosion-resisting one.
- UNS N08904904LPREN 35
High nickel, high molybdenum, with copper. Built for sulphuric acid service.
- UNS N06022Hastelloy C22
Nickel-chromium-molybdenum-tungsten. Resists both oxidising and reducing media.
- UNS S31254254 SMOPREN 43
6% molybdenum super-austenitic with nitrogen. PREN above 42.
