310 / 310S

310 is specified for oxidation resistance at temperature, not for wet corrosion service. The high chromium forms a stable scale up to around 1150 degrees C in continuous service, which makes it the standard grade for furnace internals, radiant tubes and kiln components. It is not a chloride-resistant grade and should not be substituted for 316.

Stainless Steel 310 and 310S: manufacturer, stockholder and exporter in Mumbai, India

Rajgranth Metal & Alloys manufactures, stocks, supplies and exports Stainless Steel 310 and 310S in 6 product forms from Mumbai. 25% chromium, 20% nickel. A heat-resisting grade, not a corrosion-resisting one. Rajgranth Metal & Alloys has been trading since 1980, is self-funded and debt-free, and despatches most orders from its Mumbai stockyard within two days.

About Stainless Steel 310 and 310S

310 is specified for oxidation resistance at temperature, not for wet corrosion service. The high chromium forms a stable scale up to around 1150 degrees C in continuous service, which makes it the standard grade for furnace internals, radiant tubes and kiln components. It is not a chloride-resistant grade and should not be substituted for 316.

Designations and equivalents

Stainless Steel 310 and 310S is also designated UNS S31000 / S31008, EN 1.4845, AISI 310 / 310S, JIS SUS310S, GB S31008 and Werkstoff X8CrNi25-21.

Strengths and limitations

Strengths: Oxidation resistance to approximately 1150 degrees C continuous, Resists sulphidation better than lower-chromium austenitics and Good strength retention at temperature. Limitations: Embrittles through sigma phase formation on long exposure at 650–870 degrees C, Poor performance in aqueous chloride service despite high chromium and Significantly more expensive than 304.

Applications

furnace muffles, retorts and radiant tubes, kiln and heat treatment fixtures, cement plant components and fluidised bed combustors. Typical industries: power & energy, cement, chemical and plant engineering. We supply across India and export to markets in the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Asia, North America and South America.

FAQ

Selecting a grade

What is the difference between 304 and 316?
316 contains 2 to 3 percent molybdenum, which 304 does not. That improves resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride environments, which is why 316 suits marine, chemical and coastal service. For dry indoor, food and general water use, 304 performs well at lower cost.
What is duplex and super duplex stainless steel?
A duplex microstructure is roughly half austenite and half ferrite, giving about double the yield strength of 316L together with much better resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking. Super duplex (for example 2507) pushes corrosion resistance further for seawater and sour service. The main limit is a maximum service temperature near 300 degrees Celsius.
What does PREN mean?
PREN is the Pitting Resistance Equivalent Number: percent chromium plus 3.3 times percent molybdenum plus 16 times percent nitrogen. Higher means better resistance to pitting in chlorides. It is a ranking figure, not a substitute for assessing a specific service condition.
Which grade should I choose?
It depends on the medium, temperature and pressure the material will see. Our grade pages and the grade comparator set out composition, corrosion behaviour and limitations side by side; if you tell us the service conditions, we will tell you what we would specify.
