Cement
Cement production combines sustained high temperature with abrasive dust and alkali chloride condensation in the preheater. Heat-resisting grades handle the oxidation, but sigma-phase embrittlement on long exposure and abrasion resistance both constrain the practical choice.
What gets specified in cement
Ordered by how commonly they are called for in this sector.
- UNS S31000 / S31008310 / 310SPREN 25
25% chromium, 20% nickel. A heat-resisting grade, not a corrosion-resisting one.
- UNS S40900 / S41000 / S43000400 SeriesPREN 17
Ferritic and martensitic chromium grades. Magnetic, nickel-free, hardenable.
- UNS S30400 / S30403304 / 304LPREN 19
The default austenitic stainless. 18% chromium, 8% nickel, no molybdenum.
- UNS S32100 / S32109321 / 321HPREN 19
304 stabilised with titanium. Resists sensitisation in the 425–815 degrees C range.
