What information do you need to quote stainless steel pipe?

The details a supplier needs to price pipe correctly the first time, in the order they are usually asked for.

Short answer: send the grade, whether you need seamless or welded, the nominal size and schedule (or outside diameter and wall thickness), the quantity and length, the standard, the certificate you need and the destination. With those, a quotation can be priced and confirmed without a second round of questions.

The checklist

  • Grade, for example 304L or 316L, and any UNS or EN designation your specification uses.
  • Seamless or welded.
  • Size: nominal bore and schedule, or outside diameter and wall thickness.
  • Length: standard random length, a fixed length, or cut lengths, and how many pieces.
  • Quantity in metres, pieces or tonnes.
  • Product standard and edition, for example ASTM A312.
  • Surface condition: annealed and pickled, bright annealed or polished.
  • End condition: plain or bevelled.
  • Certificate: EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2, and any third-party inspection.
  • Destination country and port, and the Incoterm you want priced.

The weight calculator on this site gives the weight for a given size, which makes it easy to compare quotations on the same basis. If you are not sure of a detail, say so and describe the application; a good supplier will recommend rather than guess.
