Stainless Steel 304 Sheet: manufacturer, stockist and exporter in Mumbai, India
Rajgranth Metal & Alloys supplies stainless steel 304 sheet (UNS S30400) from Mumbai and exports it to 18 markets.
What is SS 304 sheet?
Sheet is the thinner flat product, supplied cut to size in a stated surface finish, and heavier gauges are sold as plate to the same standard and range. SS 304 sheet and plate are used for fabricated panels, equipment housings, tank shells and process equipment, where the finish and flatness matter as much as the grade. SS 304 (UNS S30400, EN 1.4301) is the general-purpose austenitic stainless steel, with about 18 percent chromium and 8 percent nickel. It forms, draws and welds well, resists corrosion in most atmospheric, food and mild chemical conditions, and is the grade most buyers mean when they ask for stainless steel.
The default austenitic stainless. 18% chromium, 8% nickel, no molybdenum.
Rajgranth Metal & Alloys lists SS 304 among the grades it supplies and exports from Mumbai.

Standards for SS 304 sheet
SS 304 sheet is commonly specified to ASTM A240 / ASME SA-240 and ASTM A480. Commonly specified product standards. Confirm the standard, edition and any supplementary requirements on your order; we supply to the standard you name.
Why buyers choose SS 304 sheet
Good general corrosion resistance in atmospheric, food and dairy service
Excellent formability and deep drawing
Welds readily without special procedures
Where SS 304 sheet is used
- Food and dairy equipment
- Architectural cladding and trim
- Kitchen and catering equipment
- Chemical and process tanks in mild service
- General fabrication
What to state when you enquire for SS 304 sheet
- Thickness in mm and sheet size, with width of 1000, 1219, 1500 or 2000 mm published
- Surface finish: 2B, BA, No. 4, hairline, mirror, matt or chequered
- Protective film on one side or both, for polished finishes
- Quantity in sheets or kilograms
- The standard and the test certificate required
- Whether sheets are to be cut to size
What to check on SS 304 sheet before and after delivery
On SS 304 sheet, look at flatness and surface in good light and at an angle, because finish defects on polished sheet show only that way. Check thickness against the order, and the heat number against the certificate. If the sheet will be formed or welded, tell us the process so we can say whether the grade and temper suit it. Grade limits to design around: pits and crevice-corrodes in chloride environments such as coastal air and brine and sensitisation can follow welding of thick sections, where 304L is preferred.
Export of SS 304 sheet from India
SS 304 sheet is exported from Mumbai to 18 confirmed markets, quoted with the Incoterm and named port.
SS 304 compared with similar grades
Buyers who look at SS 304 sheet usually also compare SS 304L, SS 316 and SS 202. The grade pages below give each one's designations, properties and limits side by side so you can choose for the service rather than the price alone.
FAQ
09Questions answered
- Should I specify 304 or 304L?
- 304L has lower carbon, which avoids sensitisation after welding, so it is the better choice for welded thick sections and for service that could cause intergranular attack. For thin, non-welded parts, 304 is fine.
- Is SS 304 food grade?
- 304 is widely used in food and dairy equipment because it is easy to clean and does not taint food. Confirm the finish and the regulation that applies to your product.
- Can SS 304 be used in seawater?
- No. Chlorides cause pitting and crevice corrosion in 304. Use 316 for splash and mild marine exposure, and duplex, super duplex or a nickel alloy for immersion.
- What finishes can SS 304 sheet be supplied in?
- The published finishes are No. 1, 2B, 2D, BA, No. 4, hairline, mirror (No. 8), matt and chequered. For polished finishes, ask for protective film.
- Which standard applies to SS 304 sheet?
- SS 304 sheet is commonly specified to ASTM A240 / ASME SA-240 and ASTM A480. Confirm the standard and edition on your order.
- What is the minimum yield and tensile strength of SS 304?
- In the annealed condition, SS 304 has a minimum yield strength of 205 MPa and a minimum tensile strength of 515 MPa, per the standard named in the table above.
- What is the UNS number and EN designation of SS 304?
- Stainless Steel 304 is designated UNS S30400, EN 1.4301, AISI 304 and JIS SUS 304.
- What are the main alloying elements in SS 304?
- To the standard in the composition table, SS 304 carries chromium 17.50 – 19.50 and nickel 8.00 – 10.50 percent by weight. Confirm the composition on the mill test certificate supplied with your material.
- Do you supply a mill test certificate with SS 304 sheet?
- Yes, to EN 10204 3.1 as standard, showing chemistry and mechanical properties against the heat. EN 10204 3.2 with third-party inspection is available on request.
