Stainless Steel 316 and 316L strips, Shims & Foils: manufacturer, stockist and exporter in Mumbai, India
Rajgranth Metal & Alloys manufactures, stocks, supplies and exports Stainless Steel 316 and 316L strips, Shims & Foils (UNS S31600 / S31603) from Mumbai. 304 plus 2–3% molybdenum. The standard answer to chlorides and mild acids. Rajgranth Metal & Alloys has been trading since 1980, is self-funded and debt-free, and despatches most orders from its Mumbai stockyard within two days.
What is 316 / 316L?
The molybdenum addition is the whole point of 316: it substantially raises resistance to pitting and crevice attack in chloride environments, which is why 316 dominates marine, chemical and pharmaceutical service. 316L caps carbon for welded fabrication. It is not, however, immune to chlorides — in hot seawater or concentrated brine the grade still pits, and duplex or 904L becomes the correct specification.
Designations
Stainless Steel 316 and 316L is also designated UNS S31600 / S31603, EN 1.4401 / 1.4404, AISI 316 / 316L, JIS SUS316 / SUS316L, GB S31608 / S31603 and Werkstoff X5CrNiMo17-12-2 / X2CrNiMo17-12-2. Quote the designation your specification uses and we will supply to it.
Why choose 316 / 316L strips, Shims & Foils
Strong pitting and crevice resistance in chloride service, Good resistance to a broad range of process chemicals, Retains strength and toughness at cryogenic temperatures and Pharmaceutical and food-contact approved. It is non-magnetic, with excellent weldability and fair machinability, and is used in continuous service in air up to about 870 °C.
Limitations to specify around
Still pits in hot or concentrated chloride solutions, Vulnerable to chloride stress corrosion cracking above roughly 60 degrees C, Around a third more expensive than 304 for the same section and Poor resistance to reducing acids such as hydrochloric. We state these plainly so the grade is chosen for the right service.
