Stainless Steel 304 Pipe: manufacturer, stockist and exporter in Mumbai, India
Rajgranth Metal & Alloys supplies stainless steel 304 pipe (UNS S30400) from Mumbai and exports it to 18 markets.
What is SS 304 pipe?
Pipe is sized by nominal bore and schedule and is made to carry fluid or to act as structural section. SS 304 pipe is supplied welded or seamless depending on the duty: welded for general and larger-diameter lines, seamless where there must be no weld seam or the design code requires it. SS 304 (UNS S30400, EN 1.4301) is the general-purpose austenitic stainless steel, with about 18 percent chromium and 8 percent nickel. It forms, draws and welds well, resists corrosion in most atmospheric, food and mild chemical conditions, and is the grade most buyers mean when they ask for stainless steel.
The default austenitic stainless. 18% chromium, 8% nickel, no molybdenum.
Rajgranth Metal & Alloys lists SS 304 among the grades it supplies and exports from Mumbai.

Standards for SS 304 pipe
SS 304 pipe is commonly specified to ASTM A312 / ASME SA-312, ASTM A358 and ASTM A269. Commonly specified product standards. Confirm the standard, edition and any supplementary requirements on your order; we supply to the standard you name.
Why buyers choose SS 304 pipe
Good general corrosion resistance in atmospheric, food and dairy service
Excellent formability and deep drawing
Welds readily without special procedures
Where SS 304 pipe is used
- Food and dairy equipment
- Architectural cladding and trim
- Kitchen and catering equipment
- Chemical and process tanks in mild service
- General fabrication
What to state when you enquire for SS 304 pipe
- Nominal bore and schedule, or outside diameter and wall thickness
- Seamless or welded
- Length, with 5 m to 6.5 m the published stock range and longer to order
- End condition: plain or bevelled
- Surface condition: annealed and pickled, bright annealed or polished
- The standard, and the test certificate required
What to check on SS 304 pipe before and after delivery
On SS 304 pipe check the wall thickness against the schedule, the end preparation, and the heat number against the mill test certificate. For welded pipe, ask whether the weld seam has been dressed if the pipe is for exposed or polished use. Confirm that the pressure rating and design code your line is built to accept the grade and the pipe standard. Grade limits to design around: pits and crevice-corrodes in chloride environments such as coastal air and brine and sensitisation can follow welding of thick sections, where 304L is preferred.

SS 304 compared with similar grades
Buyers who look at SS 304 pipe usually also compare SS 304L, SS 316 and SS 202. The grade pages below give each one's designations, properties and limits side by side so you can choose for the service rather than the price alone.
FAQ
09Questions answered
- Should I specify 304 or 304L?
- 304L has lower carbon, which avoids sensitisation after welding, so it is the better choice for welded thick sections and for service that could cause intergranular attack. For thin, non-welded parts, 304 is fine.
- Is SS 304 food grade?
- 304 is widely used in food and dairy equipment because it is easy to clean and does not taint food. Confirm the finish and the regulation that applies to your product.
- Can SS 304 be used in seawater?
- No. Chlorides cause pitting and crevice corrosion in 304. Use 316 for splash and mild marine exposure, and duplex, super duplex or a nickel alloy for immersion.
- What is the difference between SS 304 pipe and tube?
- Pipe is specified by nominal bore and schedule, which fixes the wall for each size. Tube is specified by actual outside diameter and wall thickness. If you have an outside diameter and a wall, you are normally buying tube.
- Which standard applies to SS 304 pipe?
- SS 304 pipe is commonly specified to ASTM A312 / ASME SA-312, ASTM A358 and ASTM A269. Confirm the standard and edition on your order.
- What is the minimum yield and tensile strength of SS 304?
- In the annealed condition, SS 304 has a minimum yield strength of 205 MPa and a minimum tensile strength of 515 MPa, per the standard named in the table above.
- What is the UNS number and EN designation of SS 304?
- Stainless Steel 304 is designated UNS S30400, EN 1.4301, AISI 304 and JIS SUS 304.
- What are the main alloying elements in SS 304?
- To the standard in the composition table, SS 304 carries chromium 17.50 – 19.50 and nickel 8.00 – 10.50 percent by weight. Confirm the composition on the mill test certificate supplied with your material.
- Do you supply a mill test certificate with SS 304 pipe?
- Yes, to EN 10204 3.1 as standard, showing chemistry and mechanical properties against the heat. EN 10204 3.2 with third-party inspection is available on request.
