Machinability of 202 is only fair and the grade work-hardens, so cutting speeds and tooling need to suit. Confirm the delivery condition before ordering: a bright bar and a black bar of the same grade behave differently on the machine and in the finished part. Check the heat number on the bar against the certificate.
Remember the grade's main limit: lower corrosion resistance than 304 and 316.

- Machinability is fair rather than good, and the grade work-hardens, so use sharp tooling, positive feeds and rigid setups. If the part is mostly machining, free-machining 303 may be the better grade where it is acceptable.
- What diameters and tolerances do you supply?
- Diameters from 10 mm to 300 mm are published, in tolerance classes H7, H8, H9 and H10, and in round, square, hexagonal and threaded shapes. Send the size and class and we confirm.
- What does the delivery condition mean?
- It is how the bar leaves the mill: export bright, peeled or turned, cold drawn, centreless ground and polished, black or forged. Each gives a different surface and dimensional accuracy, so state the one your process needs.
