What is SS 202 tube?

What to check on SS 202 tube before and after delivery
On thin-wall decorative tube the points that decide acceptance are wall-thickness tolerance, weld-seam quality and surface finish, so look at all three on the first delivery. A seam that shows through a mirror polish is a finishing fault, not a material fault, and it is cheaper to agree seam treatment in the order than to argue about it after the tube is cut. As with all 200-series material, check the certificate chemistry.
Remember the grade's main limit: lower corrosion resistance than 304 and 316.

- Tube is sized by actual outside diameter and wall thickness; pipe by nominal bore and schedule. Tube also comes in square and rectangular sections. Decorative and furniture work almost always means tube.
- Is 202 tube good for handrails and furniture?
- Yes, indoors. It polishes well, forms into frames and costs less than 304. For rails outdoors or near the coast, 304 or 316 is the safer choice because 202 can stain and corrode in exposed conditions.
