What to check on SS 202 pipe before and after delivery
Welded pipe carries a longitudinal weld seam. For polished exposed pipe the seam should be dressed and blended so it disappears under the finish, and that should be agreed in the order. Check the manganese and nickel on the mill test certificate against the 202 limits, because mill-to-mill variation in this series is the commonest source of a disappointing batch. Before using 202 in any pressure line, confirm that your design code permits the grade.
Remember the grade's main limit: lower corrosion resistance than 304 and 316.

- Is SS 202 pipe suitable for water or chemical service?
- 202 suits dry, indoor and mildly humid duty. It resists corrosion less well than 304 and 316, so it is not recommended for chloride-bearing water, coastal exposure or chemical process lines. For those, move to 316, duplex or a nickel alloy.
- Should I buy welded or seamless 202 pipe?
- Welded pipe is the usual choice for decorative and structural use, and is more economical. Seamless pipe has no weld seam and is chosen where a seam is unwanted or the design code asks for it. We list 202 in both; tell us the duty and we will suggest the right one.
- How is 202 pipe sized?
- Pipe is specified by nominal bore and schedule, which fixes the wall thickness for each size. Tube, by contrast, is specified by actual outside diameter and wall thickness. If you only have an outside diameter and a wall, you are probably buying tube.
