What is SS 304L pipe?
Pipe is sized by nominal bore and schedule and is made to carry fluid or to act as structural section. SS 304L pipe is supplied welded or seamless depending on the duty: welded for general and larger-diameter lines, seamless where there must be no weld seam or the design code requires it. SS 304L (UNS S30403, EN 1.4307) is the low-carbon version of 304, with 0.030 percent carbon at most. The lower carbon keeps chromium carbides from forming at the grain boundaries when thick sections are welded, so it keeps its corrosion resistance in the as-welded condition without a post-weld anneal.
