What is SS 904L pipe?
Pipe is sized by nominal bore and schedule and is made to carry fluid or to act as structural section. SS 904L pipe is supplied welded or seamless depending on the duty: welded for general and larger-diameter lines, seamless where there must be no weld seam or the design code requires it. SS 904L (UNS N08904, EN 1.4539) is a super-austenitic stainless steel with 23 to 28 percent nickel, 4 to 5 percent molybdenum and added copper. The chemistry gives it far better resistance than 316L to sulphuric acid and to pitting and crevice corrosion in chlorides.
