Stainless Steel 904L Coil: supplier, stockist and exporter in Mumbai, India
Rajgranth Metal & Alloys supplies stainless steel 904l coil (UNS N08904) from Mumbai and exports it to 18 markets.
What is SS 904L coil?
Coil is flat-rolled material supplied wound on a core, for processors who slit, blank or roll-form it. SS 904L coil is bought by tube mills, press shops and fabricators that need continuous feedstock. SS 904L (UNS N08904, EN 1.4539) is a super-austenitic stainless steel with 23 to 28 percent nickel, 4 to 5 percent molybdenum and added copper. The chemistry gives it far better resistance than 316L to sulphuric acid and to pitting and crevice corrosion in chlorides.
High nickel, high molybdenum, with copper. Built for sulphuric acid service.
Rajgranth Metal & Alloys lists SS 904L among the grades it supplies and exports from Mumbai.

Standards for SS 904L coil
SS 904L coil is commonly specified to ASTM A240 / ASME SA-240 and ASTM A480. Commonly specified product standards. Confirm the standard, edition and any supplementary requirements on your order; we supply to the standard you name.
Why buyers choose SS 904L coil
Resists sulphuric acid in moderate concentrations
Better pitting resistance than 316L
Austenitic toughness down to low temperatures
Where SS 904L coil is used
- Sulphuric and phosphoric acid process equipment
- Seawater-cooled heat exchangers
- Flue gas desulphurisation components
- Pulp and paper bleaching plant
- Pharmaceutical process equipment
What to state when you enquire for SS 904L coil
- Thickness in mm, 0.3 mm to 8 mm published, and width, 100 mm to 2000 mm published
- Coil inner diameter: 508 mm or 610 mm
- Coil weight, or the maximum your uncoiler takes
- Surface finish and whether film is required
- Edge: mill edge or slit edge
- The standard and the test certificate required
What to check on SS 904L coil before and after delivery
On SS 904L coil, check edge condition, camber and coil set on the first delivery, since these decide how the material runs on your line. Confirm the inner diameter and coil weight against your uncoiler before ordering, and the certificate chemistry, because a whole production run inherits it. Grade limits to design around: lower strength than duplex grades and costs much more than 316L because of its nickel content.
Export of SS 904L coil from India
SS 904L coil is exported from Mumbai to 18 confirmed markets, quoted with the Incoterm and named port.
SS 904L compared with similar grades
Buyers who look at SS 904L coil usually also compare SS 316L and 254 SMO. The grade pages below give each one's designations, properties and limits side by side so you can choose for the service rather than the price alone.
FAQ
09Questions answered
- When should I choose 904L over 316L?
- When sulphuric acid, phosphoric acid or chloride pitting makes 316L marginal, and the extra cost is justified by service life.
- Is 904L better than duplex?
- It depends on the medium. 904L resists sulphuric acid better, while duplex 2205 is stronger and costs less in chloride service.
- Is 904L magnetic?
- No. It is fully austenitic and non-magnetic when annealed.
- What coil sizes of SS 904L do you supply?
- The published range is thickness from 0.3 mm to 8 mm and width from 100 mm to 2000 mm, on a coil inner diameter of 508 mm or 610 mm. Send the requirement and we confirm.
- Which standard applies to SS 904L coil?
- SS 904L coil is commonly specified to ASTM A240 / ASME SA-240 and ASTM A480. Confirm the standard and edition on your order.
- What is the minimum yield and tensile strength of SS 904L?
- In the annealed condition, SS 904L has a minimum yield strength of 220 MPa and a minimum tensile strength of 490 MPa, per the standard named in the table above.
- What is the UNS number and EN designation of SS 904L?
- Stainless Steel 904L is designated UNS N08904, EN 1.4539 and AISI 904L, and is also called 904 and Alloy 904L.
- What are the main alloying elements in SS 904L?
- To the standard in the composition table, SS 904L carries chromium 19.00 – 23.00, nickel 23.00 – 28.00 and molybdenum 4.00 – 5.00 percent by weight. Confirm the composition on the mill test certificate supplied with your material.
- Do you supply a mill test certificate with SS 904L coil?
- Yes, to EN 10204 3.1 as standard, showing chemistry and mechanical properties against the heat. EN 10204 3.2 with third-party inspection is available on request.
