Stainless Steel 316L Coil: manufacturer, stockist and exporter in Mumbai, India
Rajgranth Metal & Alloys supplies stainless steel 316l coil (UNS S31603) from Mumbai and exports it to 18 markets.
What is SS 316L coil?
Coil is flat-rolled material supplied wound on a core, for processors who slit, blank or roll-form it. SS 316L coil is bought by tube mills, press shops and fabricators that need continuous feedstock. SS 316L (UNS S31603, EN 1.4404) is the low-carbon version of 316 with 0.030 percent carbon at most. It has the molybdenum-bearing chloride resistance of 316, and the low carbon keeps welded joints from sensitising, so it is the standard choice for welded pipe, vessels and pharmaceutical and food equipment.
Rajgranth Metal & Alloys lists SS 316L among the grades it supplies and exports from Mumbai.

Standards for SS 316L coil
SS 316L coil is commonly specified to ASTM A240 / ASME SA-240 and ASTM A480. Commonly specified product standards. Confirm the standard, edition and any supplementary requirements on your order; we supply to the standard you name.
Why buyers choose SS 316L coil
Chloride resistance from molybdenum
No post-weld anneal needed to avoid intergranular attack
Standard grade for sanitary and pharmaceutical equipment
Where SS 316L coil is used
- Welded process pipe and tube
- Pharmaceutical and biotech equipment
- Food and beverage processing
- Marine and coastal fittings
- Chemical tanks and vessels
What to state when you enquire for SS 316L coil
- Thickness in mm, 0.3 mm to 8 mm published, and width, 100 mm to 2000 mm published
- Coil inner diameter: 508 mm or 610 mm
- Coil weight, or the maximum your uncoiler takes
- Surface finish and whether film is required
- Edge: mill edge or slit edge
- The standard and the test certificate required
What to check on SS 316L coil before and after delivery
On SS 316L coil, check edge condition, camber and coil set on the first delivery, since these decide how the material runs on your line. Confirm the inner diameter and coil weight against your uncoiler before ordering, and the certificate chemistry, because a whole production run inherits it. Grade limits to design around: slightly lower strength than 316 and not for sustained seawater or hot chloride service.
Export of SS 316L coil from India
SS 316L coil is exported from Mumbai to 18 confirmed markets, quoted with the Incoterm and named port.
SS 316L compared with similar grades
Buyers who look at SS 316L coil usually also compare SS 316, SS 304L and SS 904L. The grade pages below give each one's designations, properties and limits side by side so you can choose for the service rather than the price alone.
FAQ
09Questions answered
- Is 316L better than 316?
- For welded parts, yes, because the lower carbon protects the weld zone. For unwelded parts the difference is small, and 316L has a slightly lower minimum yield strength.
- Is 316L used for pharmaceutical equipment?
- Yes, it is the usual choice for product-contact surfaces. Confirm the surface finish and traceability your quality system requires.
- What is the difference between 316L and 904L?
- 904L has more nickel, molybdenum and copper, giving it much better resistance to sulphuric acid and chloride pitting, at a higher price.
- What coil sizes of SS 316L do you supply?
- The published range is thickness from 0.3 mm to 8 mm and width from 100 mm to 2000 mm, on a coil inner diameter of 508 mm or 610 mm. Send the requirement and we confirm.
- Which standard applies to SS 316L coil?
- SS 316L coil is commonly specified to ASTM A240 / ASME SA-240 and ASTM A480. Confirm the standard and edition on your order.
- What is the minimum yield and tensile strength of SS 316L?
- In the annealed condition, SS 316L has a minimum yield strength of 170 MPa and a minimum tensile strength of 485 MPa, per the standard named in the table above.
- What is the UNS number and EN designation of SS 316L?
- Stainless Steel 316L is designated UNS S31603, EN 1.4404, AISI 316L and JIS SUS 316L.
- What are the main alloying elements in SS 316L?
- To the standard in the composition table, SS 316L carries chromium 16.00 – 18.00, nickel 10.00 – 14.00 and molybdenum 2.00 – 3.00 percent by weight. Confirm the composition on the mill test certificate supplied with your material.
- Do you supply a mill test certificate with SS 316L coil?
- Yes, to EN 10204 3.1 as standard, showing chemistry and mechanical properties against the heat. EN 10204 3.2 with third-party inspection is available on request.
