01Welded Pipes in Vietnam

What Vietnam buyers use welded pipes for.

Vietnam's stainless steel demand comes from furniture and wood-processing exporters, kitchenware and household goods makers, food and beverage processing, construction fit-out, electronics assembly, and shipbuilding and oil and gas work around Vung Tau.

Environment and grade choice

The climate is tropical monsoon with high humidity all year, damp cool winters in the north and salt air along the long coast. Material that sits in warehouses or fabrication yards needs dry storage, and anything used outdoors or near the sea needs a grade chosen for chlorides. For furniture frames, decorative tube and indoor kitchen equipment SS 202 is widely used and keeps cost down. For food contact, washdown or coastal installations, 304 or 316 is the safer specification.

Standards in Vietnam

Vietnam has its own TCVN national standards, and imported steel is commonly specified to ASTM, JIS or EN. Name the standard in your order and we confirm whether it can be supplied. Buyers in the region typically order coils, sheets, welded pipe and tube in 202 and 304, polished or in 2B finish.

02SS 202 welded pipes

Welded Pipes: what to know before you order.

Welded pipe is formed from flat strip, seam-welded and then usually annealed or dressed. It is the economical route for larger diameters and for decorative and structural pipe, and it is the form in which SS 202 is most often bought.

Welded pipe is formed from strip and seam-welded, then solution annealed and pickled. For ambient and moderate-pressure duty — water, structural, food and general process lines — it delivers the same corrosion performance as seamless at materially lower cost, and is available in larger diameters.

Why buyers choose SS 202 here

  • On long runs and large diameters the weight of metal dominates the bill, so the lower price of 202 against 304 is felt most in pipe.
  • The higher annealed yield strength of 202 can allow a lighter wall in some structural designs, which is a design decision to be checked by the engineer, not assumed.
  • Pipe in 202 takes a bright polish, which suits exposed handrail, balustrade and display framing indoors.

Welded Pipes export to Vietnam: questions answered

Do Vietnamese buyers usually specify ASTM or JIS?
Both appear. Japanese-influenced industry often works to JIS, while projects and traders usually quote ASTM. Tell us which your order requires and we confirm the equivalent grade and product standard.
Which Vietnamese port should I choose for delivery?
Hai Phong suits buyers in the north around Hanoi; Cat Lai suits Ho Chi Minh City and the south. We quote to the port nearest your works.
Is SS 202 pipe suitable for water or chemical service?
202 suits dry, indoor and mildly humid duty. It resists corrosion less well than 304 and 316, so it is not recommended for chloride-bearing water, coastal exposure or chemical process lines. For those, move to 316, duplex or a nickel alloy.
Should I buy welded or seamless 202 pipe?
Welded pipe is the usual choice for decorative and structural use, and is more economical. Seamless pipe has no weld seam and is chosen where a seam is unwanted or the design code asks for it. We list 202 in both; tell us the duty and we will suggest the right one.
How is welded pipes shipped to Vietnam?
By sea from Nhava Sheva (JNPT) or Mumbai to Hai Phong or Ho Chi Minh City (Cat Lai). The quotation states the Incoterm and the named port, and quotations are typically returned the same working day. Call +91 79779 45282 or use the Request a Quote form.
